A former newspaper reporter, sports broadcaster and PR manager, Dave A. Pollard is an author of science fiction: a world-builder with compelling stories, seen through the eyes of relatable characters.

 

Born in Burnley, Lancashire, in the North West of England, much of Dave’s work reflects the cheerful stoicism, rich industrial heritage and subsequent identity crises of the places and people he knows best.

 

Born in a borough famed for its cotton, coal and football, he was brought up in a house built for workers of the industrial revolution. As a boy, Dave was captivated by tales of his town’s glory days of the 1950s and 60s, and asked lots of questions.

 

Over the years, he came to see the devastating impact of fossil fuels on our planet, and understand where the cotton on which Burnley boomed actually came from. The shine taken off Dave’s civic pride has been replaced by a sense of dismay at the way populations of post-industrial areas have been abandoned across the world. It has all helped to shape the social conscience at the heart of Dave’s writing.

 

He uses his middle initial (for Anthony, after his late uncle who was a mightily fine chap) so as not to be confused for an actual respected scientist, or indeed a haulage company.
